JW Group’s third-generation total parenteral nutrition (TPN) FINOMEL (launched as “Winuf” in Korea) has finished a rigorous quality verification process in Europe after completing the decentralized procedures (DCP) in the region in 2018 by receiving a sales license as the first Asian TPN product to do so. With this, JW has marked a “monumental milestone” as the first Asian pharmaceutical company that penetrated the European TPN market. The Fluids Marketing and the Product Plant departments of JW have been promoting the product by holding events such as the “Winuf Luncheon Symposium” and the “Company Celebration of Finomel’s Export.” With the group’s long-awaited dream to make global top 3 market players being one step closer to realization, here are some on-site sketches of the Finomel’s first shipping and celebratory events.

From Dangjin to Europe, Finomel’s great journey begins  

“Well, this is the last batch!” “Finally, it gets to go. Hope it will have a safe trip to Europe.” 

On June 11, 2019, the shipping event was held at the JW Dangjin Production Complex of JW Life Science located in Dangjin to signal the launch of Finomel’s export in full swing.  

This meaningful day to celebrate the beginning of Finomel’s historic Europe-bound export was marked with big, happy smiles on the faces of the Product Plant’s employees. Forklifts bustled back and forth moving the products, and container trucks were filled with Finomel boxes labeled with the name “Baxter.” The employees of JW Life Science took a group photo shot in front of the trucks beaming with pride and wished for a successful landing of Finomel in Europe.

Media interest was also high to cover the day’s event. Reporters from broadcasting stations and daily newspapers took pictures of the cargo stacking and employees lining to celebrate, exhibiting strong interest and high hopes for Finomel’s future.  

“Finomel is a third-generation TPN with an ideal mixture of Omega-3 and Omega-6, lipid ingredients that expedite patients’ recovery,” said Hyeon-seok Han, the Head of Product Plant unit, in a media interview after the shipping. “It has the highest Omega 3 content among all three-chamber TPN products released in the European markets to help improve the immune system while providing essential nutrients. It is a great product, highly competitive in the market.”   

Mr. Han, with his heart swelling with emotion, recollected the path the company had followed from the signing of the exclusive license agreement with Baxter to the expansion of the automated TPN manufacturing line and the obtaining of the EU-GMP certificate. “Today, we are finally seeing what those efforts have achieved,” he commented.

The container trucks loaded with the cargo passed through the front gate of the JW Dangjin Production Complex heading toward the Port of Busan. From there, Finomel will set sail for Europe. Baxter, the leading player in the global PN market, will distribute the product in the United Kingdom, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and other European countries, 18 in total, in stages. Going forward, the product will also be released in the US market.
